Border Patrol Union Wants AG Eric Holder to Resign

Citing his handling of Operation Fast and Furious, the ATF-led operation, which put guns from Arizona into the hands of Mexican cartels, the National Border Patrol Council is asking Attorney General Eric Holder to resign.

?We take the risks that are out there naturally just being in law enforcement? [but] what you can?t accept is when your own government is allowing weapons into the hands of the people you?re confronting,? azstarnet quoted Shawn Moran, a vice president of the Union, which represents some 3,700 agents in Southern Arizona and 17,000 nationwide.

In a May 3, 2012 update document,? Darrel Issa calls the DOJ?s firearms trafficking operation ?reckless conduct?. BP agent Brian Terry, a Michigan native and Marine veteran, patrolled Peck Canyon near Rio Rico, Arizona with three other agents. They saw five people, suspects, two with rifles. As the agents approached, one suspect fired at them and the agents returned fire. A bullet hit Agent Terry.

All but one of the suspects fled. Agent Terry was fully conscious, but his bleeding could not be stopped. He died in the desert while the agents waited for medical help to arrive on December 15, 2010.

Investigators found two AK-47 ?variant rifles? at the scene. Both weapons were purchased January 16, 2010 by Jaime Avila of Phoenix. Avila had been listed on the Operation Fast and Furious database by ATF November 25, 2009.

The US Attorney?s Office in AZ indicted Avila on three counts of ?lying and buying? states the Issa memo. In August 2011, Terry?s family made a motion, under the Crime Victim?s Rights Act, as a party to the case against Jaime Avila. The Justice Department objected to it, however, stating that Avila?s ?offenses are too factually and temporarily attenuated from the murder?if connected at all.?

Terry?s brother and step-mother walked out of a meeting with officials, believing they were not being honest. The union also alleged dishonesty from Holder.
